Patricia Osborne gives an overview of the journey the Brittle Bone Society have been on to establish their own medical advisory board and scientific committee, develop their first research strategy, involve, engage and gain participation from the OI Community, whilst forging relationships, building networks and making friends along the way.
Patricia Osborne joined UK Charity the Brittle Bone Society as CEO in 2010 and has worked on the Charity’s last two strategic plans and their first Research Strategy which was accepted in to the AMRC Nov 2016 (Association of Medical Research Charities).
The Charity held their first Scientific Symposium in London Feb 2017 where they launched their first Research Grants Programme. They held their 2nd International Symposium and family Conference2018 in Dundee on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary, with participation from 19 countries and a total of 270 delegates. They also hosted the AGM for the OIFE which is the European umbrella group for OI support groups across Europe.
Front line support remains key; fundraising for vital equipment for those with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and expanding the Charity’s high quality events. Their current campaign work includes calls to the NHS for creation of an ‘Adult rare bone service’.
Prior to joining the Charity Patricia worked in the Media and Politics and served as a local Elected Member, also holding the post of Chair of a National Governing body in sport – Netball in Scotland.
